Magna, a prominent player in the automotive industry, is embarking on an exciting expansion venture in Querétaro, Mexico. This strategic move comes on the heels of securing multiple prestigious contracts for rear lighting solutions from various automakers. The company has now officially commenced the construction of its ambitious USD 17 million expansion project.
The significance of this expansion is underscored by Jeff Hunt, President of Magna Mechatronics, Mirrors & Lighting, who notes, “Lighting is a growing segment within the mobility industry, playing a critical role in both vehicle safety and design, aligning seamlessly with our forward-thinking business strategy.” Magna’s Querétaro facility specializes in crafting rear lighting technology, encompassing tail lamps and appliques, for several global automakers. The expansion, spanning approximately 165,000 square feet, will notably enhance the company’s capabilities, increasing the total footprint to over 340,000 square feet.
This expansion extends beyond infrastructure; it’s also a job-creation catalyst. Magna anticipates adding more than 280 new jobs over the next four years, bringing its employee count to approximately 800 at full production. This development underscores Magna’s commitment to the local community and the state of Querétaro while reinforcing the pivotal role of lighting in the automotive industry. As production gears up for 2024, Magna’s expanded Querétaro division is poised to illuminate the future of automotive lighting solutions, seamlessly integrating technology, safety, and design.
