Kia Mexico and UANL Seek Educational Alliance in Smart Manufacturing

Young Sam Kim, President of Kia Mexico, stated that they want to share with new generations the experience of the processes and techniques that make Kia a benchmark in manufacturing and continue improving with the help of new talents in various specialties.

Monterrey, NL. Kia Mexico and the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) aim to create a cooperation framework to strengthen dual education through educational programs, professional practices, and scheduled visits. The goal is to prepare future professionals to successfully integrate into the automotive industry.

UANL, the educational institution with the largest student population in the state of Nuevo León, offers a wide range of degrees, high school programs, specialties, and postgraduate certifications. These programs are designed to equip students with the necessary skills to face the challenges of smart manufacturing.

The Kia Mexico manufacturing plant in Pesquería, Nuevo León, is an example of advanced technology, using the most modern tools as well as state-of-the-art robots and processes. These resources will be available to students in related courses and degrees, providing them with practical and direct experience in a cutting-edge industrial environment.

“We want to share with new generations the experience of the processes and techniques that make Kia a benchmark in manufacturing and continue improving with the help of new talents in various specialties,” detailed Young Sam Kim, President of Kia Mexico.

In turn, UANL’s rector, Santos Guzmán López, indicated that the next step will be to jointly define the activities, goals, and specific mechanisms to formalize this collaboration agreement.

Dual Technical High School in Mechatronics

UANL is already implementing academic programs that integrate theoretical and practical learning in the automotive sector. A notable example is the Dual Technical High School in Mechatronics offered by the Industrial and Technical High School “Álvaro Obregón,” which will begin in the August-December 2024 semester.

Thanks to its close relationships and agreements with various companies, the Industrial and Technical High School “Álvaro Obregón” has developed academic plans that meet the industrial needs of the region.

Walter Molina Sauceda, head of this high school program, emphasized the importance of these programs to meet the demand for specialized technicians in the industry.

“The relevance of these programs lies in providing industries with qualified human capital. Nationally, we seek to meet the educational quality standards of the Secretariat of Education and, internationally, to be on par with the most developed countries,” said Molina Sauceda.

For instance, graduates of the Dual Technical High School in Mechatronics will be able to apply the skills acquired in subjects such as mechatronics, analog and digital electricity, production systems, mechanics, hydraulic systems, and robotics maintenance, as well as PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) programming, in work environments related to electronics and programming.
